Traffic tied up after collision in canyon Traffic was gridlocked near downtown Laguna Beach Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle struck a bicyclist, several parking meters and parked cars in the 700 block of Laguna Canyon Road about 3:45 p.m. The bicyclist, a male, and the 75-year-old woman driver were both taken to Mission Hospital but suffered minor injuries, Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jason Kravetz said. The incident resulted in a Sig-Alert in which all lanes of the highway were ordered closed for an hour.

Laguna man arrested on drug charges A Laguna Beach man was arrested on the suspicion of possessing drugs with the intention to sell, in the home where he lived with his 8-year-old son, police said. Police went to the home of Renzo Gamboa at 2:12 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Del Mar Drive to investigate evidence that Gamboa's car had been involved in another, unrelated crime, said Sgt. Darin Lenyi. Officers smelled marijuana in the house, and when they did a search they found cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, Lenyi said.

TUESDAY Brangwyn Way and Cress Street: A Dana Point resident and a Hemet resident were arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale after five ounces of psilocybin mushrooms were discovered in the Hemet man's car following a traffic stop. The arrests were made at 1:15 and 1:24 a.m. MONDAY Ceanothus Drive: A man told police that he found his front door broken when he returned from vacation to his home in the 31200 block at 6:05 p.m. Cliff Drive: A resident reported a chow dog was barking loudly outside the front door in the 700 block at 4:10 p.m. Cliff Drive and North Coast Highway: A person handing out fliers to advertise a store was reported to be making a mess at 3:20 p.m. Forest Avenue: A baggie of methamphetamines was found by a police officer in the 500 block at 10:53 a.m. Glenneyre Street: A person reported being unable to remove a pigeon from a gallery in the 300 block at 11:05 a.m. The bird had gotten itself into a narrow crawl space.

TUESDAY South Coast Highway: An innkeeper called police after a man wearing no shoes ordered a drink and didn't pay for it in the 400 block at 9:55 a.m. Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper. Second Avenue: A resident in the 31000 block called police after an ex-boyfriend allegedly shattered a glass pane on her door with his foot. The suspect was gone when police arrived. South Coast Highway: A 68-year-old Auburn, Calif.

It’s hard to believe that the idyllic Laguna Canyon enclave of Woodland Drive, not too far from the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, was once known as Dodge City because of the gunfire that tended to erupt there in the 1960s. That was a long time ago, but it seems memories are still fresh about the days when Laguna Beach — and Woodland Drive — was the center of a sophisticated and highly entrepreneurial international drug ring that imported and sold marijuana, hashish and the “new” drug, LSD, with a zeal and business-savvy that could have impressed a Donald Trump.
