Lenten groups at Presbyterian Church For Lent, Laguna Presbyterian Church is launching "The Ultimate Social Network: 40 Days Face to Face with Jesus," a small group weekly discussion of portions of the Gospel of Mark. Little did Gary Cowman know that a place he had no intention of visiting would become his home. The Laguna Beach native moved to Kenya 24 years ago with his wife, Lori, to work for an organization dedicated to translating the Bible into different languages. First, he had to rid his mind of stereotypes. "I had no interest in Africa when I was in college [at Cal State Fullerton]," Cowman, 50, said Thursday afternoon, just four days before he and Lori would fly back to Kenya after spending seven months in Orange County.

If Twitter is any indication of fame, Justin Bieber has nearly 13 million followers to prove his popularity. He's the subject of countless books, and a Laguna Beach author has added one more to that list. In March, Cathleen Falsani was eating sushi with friend David Vanderveen when the idea struck her to write a book on religion and the teen idol. "We were chatting about book ideas I was tossing around," she said. "At some point in the conversation he just sort of mentioned, 'I think you really should do a book called "The Gospel According to Justin Bieber.

Interfaith Council hosts Day of Prayer The Laguna Beach Interfaith Council presents its annual Day of Prayer with a free breakfast at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Any donations will be given to the Mission Hospital Foundation. The program includes prayers of hope, thanksgiving, forgiveness and caring. Attendees will have the opportunity to deepen relationships with each other and share instances when they felt fed or as God's agents fed others.
