Business Club hosts Bluebird Canyon team Bob Burnham, the Bluebird Canyon recovery project coordinator, and Hannes Richter, geotechnical engineer, will present a synopsis of the two-year restoration effort for members of the Laguna Beach Business Club at the club’s monthly breakfast, 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hotel Laguna. Burnham, former city attorney for Newport Beach, was asked to take on the role of Recovery Coordinator shortly after the June 2005 landslide.

The Falcon Theatre is once again staging a classy, original take on an old fairy tale. "The Empress and Her New Clothes" is, for the most part, refreshingly free of the conventional story of a vain and foolish king who so gullibly walks out of the palace in his underwear, too ashamed to let himself admit he isn't one of the elite few who can actually see the magnificent (and totally nonexistent) material his clothes are made from. Instead, the play pays homage to charming tales like Audrey Hepburn's "Roman Holiday," where a sweet, lovely young princess grabs a chance to temporarily live life as a commoner.

Two Laguna Beach residents were among the eight victims killed in a shooting spree at Salon Meritage in Seal Beach on Oct. 12. Scott Evans Dekraai, of Huntington Beach, was charged Oct. 14 with eight felony counts of special-circumstance first-degree murder and one felony count of attempted murder. The rampage is the worst massacre in Orange County history. Among the first killed that day was salon owner Randy Fannin, 63, of Laguna Beach. Witnesses reported Dekraai first shot his ex-wife, her client, then Fannin.

A Laguna Beach woman was among those killed in Wednesday's shooting in Seal Beach. Victoria Buzzo, 54, died after the shooting inside the Salon Meritage beauty parlor Wednesday afternoon when suspected shooter Scott Evans Dekraai allegedly walked in and started firing. Public records show she was married to David Buzzo. The two lived on La Costa Court, off El Toro Road and near the Laguna Woods-Aliso Viejo border. Witnesses reported that Dekraai, 41, walked into the upscale salon on Pacific Coast Highway and began firing.

The public is invited on Sunday to an event at Unique Tan called Bronze for a Cause, a fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year nominee Ben Medina. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) hosts annual nominations and awards for Man and Woman of the Year in their different chapters. Medina is one of 13 nominees in the area. Unique Tan Owner Sherry Lee Meredith heard about Medina's nomination on Facebook and wanted to help him raise funds for his campaign.

From craft beer shampoo to flower essences that boost your mood, a new beauty shop in Laguna Beach offers up items you won't find at the corner drugstore. Roots The Beauty Underground, which opened Aug. 1, specializes in non-toxic products, as well as natural and organic items. Using toxin-free products is just common sense, owner Laura Linsenmayer contends. "If there's a chemical linked to sickness, why would we put it on our largest organ that's absorbed into our blood stream?"

Audiences who attend performances by Iryna Krechkovsky and Kevin Kwan Loucks not only get to witness a musical partnership, but a partnership in life. Krechkovsky, a violinist, and Loucks, a pianist, are married, which they say works to their advantage when playing music together. "For a lot of our friends that are couples, criticism in music becomes personal criticism," Krechkovsky said. "I think that's why a lot of the times it doesn't work out. But we met working together, so we have a lot of respect for each other as musicians and people.

Wild Oats collection site for funds Wild Oats Market, at 283 Broadway, will be collecting monetary donations to help aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Customers can donate any amount at checkout stands until September 30 for the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund. The program will run in all stores throughout the country. Salon offers haircuts for hurricane relief Simpatico Salon is raising money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
