With a small team numbers wise, injuries don?t help the Laguna Beach High football team. And facing a San Diego Section powerhouse with three key players out due to concussion made it hard to play defense Friday night. Coronado poured it on early in a 69-20 rout of the Breakers on Sept. 18 at Laguna Beach High. ?It was two things,? Laguna Beach Coach Jonathan Todd said. ?We were down quite a few starters on defense and we just didn?t have a good game. We weren?t tackling.

After giving up 134 points in its first two games of the season, the Laguna Beach High football team needed to get a bit defensive about their defense. Mission accomplished in Week 3 against Santa Monica, as the Breakers won the nonleague game, 42-21, at Santa Monica College. Laguna Beach (1-2) played a dominant game, up 36-7 at one point in the third quarter. Junior quarterback Austin Paxson threw for 245 yards and four touchdown passes, matching his total from last year?

Crescenta Valley High School graduate Seong Park's involvement in acting and theater was an accident. Park, 19, actually chose a guitar class for an elective, but was mistakenly enrolled in drama when he was a freshman. He continued in the class, but was presented an ultimatum -- audition for the spring musical or get an F. Park auditioned, and now hopes to continue his acting career at the Guildford School of Acting Conservatory in the United Kingdom -- if he gets the money.

Animation students showcase Graduating seniors and alumni recently showcased their body of work to premier studios, designers and executives at Laguna College of Art & Design's Annual Industry Open House, where industry professionals met students, examined their talent and conducted casual interviews. Members of the class of 2010 and recent grads combined to represent several of the college's degree programs including animation, game art, illustration and graphic design. Attendees also enjoyed a screening of short films and a networking luncheon.
