An underground electrical vault caught fire at 2:52 a.m. Sunday on South Coast Highway at Legion Street, causing a power outage for 2,126 customers in a large swath of downtown Laguna Beach, said Southern California Edison spokeswoman Vanessa McGrady. Power to all but 80 customers was restored by 10:53 a.m. Sunday. The remainder of the customers had their power restored by 10 a.m. Monday. The incident resulted from a "failed underground connector" due to an unknown cause, McGrady said.
