South Orange County is a thriving region with a burgeoning high-end job market but housing prices to match, according to a new report. The most important thing to keep in mind when casting your vote on Nov. 2, should you care about the environment, is that there is an initiative, Prop. 23, that seeks to suspend the state law requiring reducing greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. The state's landmark Climate Change law AB-32, was signed into law in 2006 by Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who said, "I wanted to make California No. 1 in the fight against global warming. Are you like me and currently trying to get a handle on where the line in the sand of sanity is drawn these days? I was stoked to find out that one of the best ways to fight anxiety (which can lead to depression) is surfing. OK, you got me, it wasn’t just surfing, it was staying active in general. Here is a response to Cindy Frazier?s column ?No such thing as free parking? (Dec. 12). I agree with Cindy?s conclusion that free parking in the city-owned lot at Forest Avenue and Laguna Canyon Road will not help stressed local merchants. We all appreciate that our City Council took prompt action in an effort to help local vendors. So now what? What will our council leaders do to help our merchants? I have no ideas about a short-term fix. However, here is the synopsis from the beginning of the Resident and Visitor Mobility section of Vision Laguna 2030 Strategic Plan completed in December 2001: ?

By Catharine Cooper Happy 234th birthday, America! On Sunday, we will celebrate the bravery and vision of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. It seems hard to fathom that we were ever under the ruling influence of any other country. Decades after its signing, President Abraham Lincoln called the Declaration of Independence "that immortal emblem of humanity," for it clearly set us apart from the rest of the world. It was a ragtag army of committed patriots that banded together to demand an end to the repression and excessive taxes of England.

California’s recession is over. You didn’t notice? Well, not many Californians did. According to the Business Forecasting Center at the University of the Pacific, California’s two-year recession ended in the fourth quarter of 2009. The report acknowledges that, certain economic indicators aside, it will “feel like a recession” to Californians for a while longer. Unemployment rates — still hovering above 12% — are not predicted to fall back into single digits until 2012.
