The UPS Store defeated Bushards, 5-0, in a competitive, quick and mostly error-free Laguna Beach Little League AAA division playoff game. Jack Wills pitched five scoreless innings for UPS and Tyler Jackson closed the game with excellent pitching in the sixth. UPS jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Justin Holm started the inning with a single to center field. Two outs later, Connor Coscino and Kegan Babick drew walks and then Wills hit a double to left field to score Holm and Coscino.

The UPS Store topped Morgan Stanley, 10-9, on May 1 in the Laguna Beach Little League AAA Division in the teams? final regular-season meeting this year. This game was a battle from start to finish, just like their prior games where UPS won. 11-7. Morgan Stanley won, 7-6, and the teams tied 7-7 in the other meeting. Saturday?s game was no different. Jack Wills hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 1st inning for UPS to start the scoring. Morgan Stanley came back in the top of the third to make it 3-3 with a two-out hit by Judge Washer.

Pitz helps Team USA to bronze Laguna Beach High junior Taylor Pitz competed at the Quiksilver International Surfing Assn. World Junior Championship, which ended Thursday in New Zealand. Pitz was one of four surfers on the girls? Under-18 national team. She helped Team USA, coached by Laguna Beach resident Ian Cairns, to a third-place finish and bronze medal. Pitz finished in 11th place in individual U-18 girls? competition. For more extensive coverage of the event, see next week?

Laguna Beach freshman, Matthew Meisberger has received recognition for winning the 2009 season go-karting championship. Matthew received his award at the Los Angeles Kart Club banquet in December. Matt dominated the clubs popular HPV-2 Junior class with three wins and a total of 7 podiums. “2009 was a really great season and a lot of fun, we were fast when it counted and stayed out of trouble the whole year.
