Three different Laguna Beach Junior Team Tennis squads were victorious in matches played Saturday. The Laguna Beach 12-and-under Red team defeated Bill Barber Park, 7-2. Players winning sets for Laguna included Joie Selin (6-4), Cale Airey (6-3), Bridgitte Thomas (6-3), Bridgitte Hockaday and Claire Hockaday (walkovers). Bridgitte Hockaday and Kelly Keller won a doubles set, 6-2, while Claire Hockaday and Charles Keller won via walkover. The 12-and-under Blue team shut out Turtle Rock, 9-0. Tyler Jackson (6-0)

The Laguna Beach Breakers team tennis 14-and-under squad picked up a victory last week by defeating La Habra. The Breakers won on sets, 6-3, and in games, 45-24. In singles action for Laguna was Breck Bash (6-0, walk over), Brad Barnes (6-2), Katelyn Walsh (6-2) and Monika Prokes (6-0). Laguna teams winning in doubles included Conrad Reeves/Will Reeves over La Habra's Maddy Brutek/Sarah Told (6-3), and Dylan Somerset/Tory Langton won 6-0, walk over against Crystal Dale/Molly Brown.

More was promised. Here it is, culled from the pages of the Coastline Pilot. July 4: Heisler Park was reopened with a ribbon cutting and public picnic. Hot dog! The annual fireworks display celebrated the birth of the nation, but it also heralded the opening of the 2008 Festival Season. July 11: Councilwoman Toni Iseman suggested adding another level to the Glenneyre Street Parking Structure. The council voted unanimously to re-up Police Officer Jason Farris’s duty as outreach to the homeless for at least another year.
