Film Society screens two movies The Laguna Beach Film Society is screening a documentary and a British comedy Friday and March 17. "Men Who Swim," a documentary about Sweden's first all-male synchronized swim team, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at the Forum Theatre on the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Tickets are $15. The society will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the 2009 British Indy Award winner, "Looking for Eric. " The comedy follows a middle-aged British postal worker who feels bored with his unchanging routine.

Creativity and ecology will collide when fashion meets art, Project Runway-style, at the Festival Runway Fashion Show, which takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Festival of Arts grounds. An array of participating artists, individually or in groups, will be given the challenge of creating garments from materials that are at least 80% reclaimed, reused or recycled, and will be scored based on creative concept and use of materials, presentation, innovation, artist merit, fantasy and imagination, humor and fashion as art. Community Art Project benefit Community Art Project will hold a Roaring '20s-themed fundraiser and live art auction at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Wells Fargo Bank, 260 Ocean Ave. The art may be previewed at the bank's gallery up until the event. Sawdust's 'Spring into Art' classes Sawdust Art Festival's "Spring Into Art" weekend art workshops will begin Saturday and continue Sunday, March 19 and 20. The fifth annual art workshops are for people of all levels of experience taught by professional Sawdust Art Festival exhibiting artists. Class options include silk painting taught by Olivia Batchelder; watercolor by Hedy Buzan-Williamson; impressional oil by John Eagle; Chinese brush painting flowers and also landscapes by Karen Mills; landscapes in oil by Susan Wade; create with clay by Sherry Bullard; printmaking by Melinda Jones; crocheting by Arlyth Atkinson; soulful creativity doll workshop by Cherril Doty; vintage China mosaics by Ashley Pigden-Hemsley; Roberta Goodman will teach beading and wire wrapping; and Loren Chapman glass blowing.

The Winter Fantasy is one more reason for locals to give thanks. Opening Day of the 16th annual show was Saturday. The show will run for the next three weekends, starting today, at the Sawdust Festival grounds, 935 Laguna Canyon Rd. The Winter Fantasy provides an appealing alternative to the mall madness and sameness — dare we use the work "unique." "It is Laguna's gateway to the holidays," exhibitor Sally Wilde said. "We light our tree before the city does." (City and Chamber of Commerce officials usher in the holidays on Hospitality Night, always the first Friday in December)

Laguna Outreach art workshop today Laguna Outreach Community Arts "Art Escapes" is a "Linocut Printmaking" series to be taught today by Enrique Marshall from 1:45 to 4 p.m. Learn how line, negative and positive spaces are essential in creating an image. The artist will bring in examples of her work, illustrating her technique. In the interest of safety, "safetykut" will be used rather than linoleum to create a printing block. The class is suitable for all artistic levels.
